Rose Weiner

Obituary of Rose Therese Weiner

Rose Therese (Goggin) Weiner was born on March 8, 1930 in Milwaukee, WI to Helen (Logan) and John Goggin.  She was the youngest of three children and the only daughter.  From the start, Rose was a fiercely independent child.  She attended Milwaukee Public Schools and following graduation she held several odd jobs as she insisted on maintaining her independence.  While working as a Nurses Aid in Milwaukee, the US entered the Korean War.  Rose felt it was her duty to serve her country and in 1950  she enlisted in the US Navy.  She served as a midwife and was stationed at the naval base in Corpus Christi, TX.  In 1957 Rose married the love of her life, Joel Weiner.  They eventually made their home in West St. Paul and they both worked for the State of Minnesota.  Rose retired soon after Joel”s death.  At the age of 63 she earned her private pilot’s license.  Her favorite thing about flying was putting the engine into stall and experiencing the thrill!  She had a love and devotion for all animals and was a devoted donor to the Humane Society of Minnesota.  At the age of 86 Rose fulfilled one of her life-long dreams of owning a race horse.  One horse led to another and another and another bringing her much joy in the last 5 years.  Always strong-willed and determined, Rose maintained her independence driving and living alone until the end, just like she wanted. Rose was preceded in death by her husband Joel, her parents, and two brothers John and James. She is survived by her best friend and care giver Jane Hutchens, her loving friends Joyce and Rick Osborne and Terri Brown, as well as several nieces and nephews.
