Obituary of Janice Irene Roman

Janice Irene Ames Anderson Roman, 87, of Duluth passed away October 13, 2021 in the Benedictine Living Community.

Janice was born October 14, 1933, in Moose Lake, to Bill and Irene (Swenson) Ames. She was a graduate of Askov High School, class of 1951. She married her first husband, Richard (Dick) Anderson, in 1954 and her second husband, Joe Roman, in 1986.

Janice worked in the Cashier’s Office at UMD and retired as Head Cashier after 37 years in 1996. She was an active member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and a former member of the Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity. Her hobbies included knitting, gardening, camping, and volleyball.

Janice loved spending time with her family. Her grandchildren were the light of her life and she spent many hours watching her grandchildren’s sporting events and music concerts.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her grandson Brian Jacobson, and her brother Bill Ames.

Janice is survived by her daughter Debbie (John) Jacobson, son Ron (Dr. Carly) Anderson, daughter Carmen (Jay) Lopp; grandchildren Heather Lilliberg, Kyle Anderson, Stephanie Graves, Theresa Jacobson, Abbie Matz, Emily and Zoe Lopp; great-grandchildren Maddie, Laine, Samantha, Brian, Ivy, Finley, and baby Matz; siblings Pam Schenk, Bob Ames, Cindy Evenson.

Janice’s family would like to thank all of the caregivers who made it possible for her to remain in her home, until very recently, following a stroke in 2011. The family would also like to thank the staff of the Safe Harbor Unit at the Benedictine Living Community for the wonderful care they provided for Janice during her time at the facility since July of this year.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.

VISITATION: 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Oct 20th followed by a memorial  service beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church 4831 Grand Ave., with Pastor Elizabeth Davis presiding.  Arrangements provided by Cremation Society of Minnesota.
