Obituary of Lorraine Patricia Timmons
Lorraine Patricia Timmons (Miller) passed away peacefully at her home in Burnsville, Minnesota, on October 5th, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. She was 93. Lorraine’s family was able to comfort her with memories and love in her last days, with the assistance of the staff at Valley Ridge Assisted Living and Lifespark Hospice.
Lorraine was born in St. Paul on August 25, 1928, to Allen and Cecelia Miller. She was their first child. Her brother Glenn followed shortly after. She graduated from Monroe High School. Lorraine married Richard Timmons, the best slow dancer from the St. Paul Catholic Youth Center, on August 6, 1952. Together they raised six children: Rick, Kathy, Dave, Lynne, Bob, and Trish.
Lorraine spent her early life taking care of her children and teaching them to be loving, caring, and tolerant of others. Her limited free time was spent in the yard tending to her garden. She simplified life by having “Hamburger Saturday.”
Lorraine took a part-time job to pursue her passion for flowers when the kids were older. She enjoyed creating floral arrangements at Edith Miller Florist. She led an increasingly active life as the kids moved out, filled with golf, gambling (she and Dick found gambling a relaxing pastime, and they frequented Las Vegas), and visiting her children (and eventually her grandchildren).
In retirement, Lorraine and Dick spent many summers at their favorite place, Velvet Beach Park in northern Minnesota. They enjoyed playing cards, golfing, visiting with friends on their patio, and working around the park. Any walleye they were lucky enough to catch would be fried for dinner. Their kids and grandkids, who visited often, were happy to spend time on the best beach in Minnesota. Four generations have now created great memories there, swimming, fishing, and boating.
Lorraine enjoyed travel and “dragged” Dick with her to many places, including Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, a 13-country European tour, and a cruise to Alaska with her children. She would collect souvenir rocks that Dick had to haul home. Most of these rocks now outline her garden at Velvet Beach.
After her husband passed, Lorraine continued to spend time at Velvet Beach. She would break up the two-hour drive by spending the night at Grand Casino Mille Lacs, one of many Minnesota casinos she found herself supporting in her later years. In the last few years of her life, trips to Velvet Beach and the casinos slowed. She spent much of her time reading on her iPad and turned her focus to following the exploits of her children, grandchildren, and especially her great-grandchildren. She would light up when she was with them.
Lorraine is preceded in death by her husband, Richard, and son Rick. She is survived by children Kathy (John) Sattizahn, Dave (Sue), Lynne (Tom) McNutt, Bob (Jane), and Trish; daughter-in-law Chris;
grandchildren Ryan, Erin, Michelle, Michael, Laura, Beth, Scott, Jenny, and Andrea; great grandchildren Noah, Stella, Carson, Eli, Colin, Mila, and Henry.
We will gather for a Celebration of Life on Saturday, October 30th, 2021, at Cremation Society of Minnesota, 1979 Old Hudson Road, St Paul. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. There will be a service at 11:00 a.m. with lunch to follow. Lorraine wanted a celebration, not a funeral, so come prepared to share stories and spread joy. Memorials to American Cancer Society or American Heart Association.
