Nadine Sturlaugson

Obituary of Nadine T Sturlaugson

On Monday, October 4th, 2021, Nadine T Sturlaugson (Johnson), age 79, passed away peacefully at her home in Lakeville, MN, surrounded by her loving family. With the assistance of the staff at Minnesota Hospice, Nadine was able to be comfortable in her last days and was able to stay home, allowing family and friends to surround her in memories and love.

Nadine was born in Grafton, ND on May 2, 1942, to Larry and Josie Johnson, the youngest of four children. She graduated from Gardar, ND and went on to seek a two year degree in business and accounting in Grand Forks, ND. Nadine married the love of her life, Jonas Milo Sturlaugson, on April 8, 1961 and together raised three children: Patti, Kandi, and Jonas Myles.

Nadine was an angel on earth, always sharing the love of Christ to those around her, family and friends as well as complete strangers. She was famous for her incredible gift of cooking and baking; one never left her house hungry. Nadine had a gift of creating meals from any hodgepodge ingredients and they ended up tasting like five star restaurant dishes.

Nadine was preceded in death by her father Larry, her mother Josie, and her three brothers: Ernie, Freddie, and Bill as well as many brothers and sisters in law: Jeanne (Sturlaugson) Sherman, Marlene (Sturlaugson) and Mark Osterhout, Alan and Janet Sturlaugson, David and Jackie Sturlaugson. She is survived by her husband Jonas, daughter Patti Galegher (Brian), daughter Kandi Robinson (Dean), and son Jonas Myles Sturlaugson, Grandchildren Taylor Sturlaugson, Brittani (Robinson) & Kristen Fah, Jonathan Galegher, Blake & Kayla Robinson, and Lauren Sturlaugson-Chellsen. Nadine and Jonas also have one great grandson, Riley Robinson, who was and is the “most adorable boy in the world.” Nadine is also survived by sister and brother-in-law Emily (Sturlaugson) and Sibbie Kristjanson and Ted and Bonnie Sturlaugson and many nieces and nephews who adored her greatly.

Although her body had long since grown tired and she endured years of pain, Nadine always said, “I’m okay, There’s so many more in worse shape than me.” She wasn’t a quitter, always setting goals for future days and events. Her two most recent were the birth of her first great grandson (whom SHE gave the name, Riley) in 2019, and then the recent wedding of grandson Blake to Kayla where she was the flower grama and Joe the ring bearer, on September 19,2021. Once she had reached these goals, she finally decided she needed to rest, and so she did.

Nadine was very specific on many details for her Celebration of Life, and we are doing our best to honor those wishes. We will gather together on Saturday, November 6th, 2021, at 18970 Goodwin Ave, Hastings, MN 55033. Just east of Vermillion, MN on the corner of 190th St. and Goodwin Ave. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am, Service at 11:00 am and lunch to follow. Nadine wanted a celebration, not a funeral, so come prepared to share stories and spread joy.
