Rosella Means

Obituary of Rosella Means

Rosella (Rose) Means (Daarud) passed away on September 6, 2021 at the age of 85. Though Rose’s health was failing for years, few people knew the extent to which she struggled. Her indomitable spirit was unbroken until the end.

Rose was a great gardener, growing vegetables, strawberries and flowers. She then turned that bounty into delicious pickles, jams and strawberry-rhubarb pie.  A highlight of her life was seeing Elvis in concert as she loved his music so, especially hymns. Given the opportunity, Rose would grab her rod and reel and drive out of town…gone fishin’.

Rose spent many years in the food service industry, as a deli manager and even owning her own restaurant.  Her family were grateful recipients of her love served to all in the guise of holiday meals and family celebrations.

Preceded in death by her husband James; daughter Michelle Schultz; siblings Ann Martin, Dorothy Jay, Alice McTasney and George Daarud; and granddaughter Shelley Epps.

Survived by daughters Linda Epps and Cherri Means; siblings Joyce Klatte and Elmer Daarud; many adoring grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchild.

A private celebration of life will be held at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum on October 10. Rose will then join her husband James at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, at cancer.org.
