Obituary of Frauke Marlis Schlichting

Frauke “Frankie” Marlis Schlichting, Age 83, passed away peacefully on Monday September 6th, 2021.

Frankie was born March 20, 1938 in Bremen, Germany to Wilhelm and Lona Schmiedecke. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Hans Schlichting (m. 1960 – 2001) and husband Ron Siegmund (m. 2003 – 2011). She is survived by her brother Uwe Schmiedecke, her three children: Gwen Anderson, Greg Schlichting, Chris Maley (Erin Stream); her grandson, Justin Anderson. Also, five step-children: Richard Siegmund, Beth Davis, Ryan Siegmund (Kim), Dana Hamilton (Wayne), Steven Siegmund; six step-grandchildren: Kylie, Jordan, Blake, Paige, Tea, Brady, and step great grand-daughter, Lyanah.

Frankie was a beautiful, brave, and courageous woman who lived an amazing life! Her sense of adventure started at a young age by coming to America at age 20. She was full of zest and curiosity, and her passion and energy continued throughout her life.

Frankie dedicated many years working in the Roseville School District where she formed special bonds with the students and lifelong friendships with her colleagues. Outside of her career and into her retirement, Frankie was an avid golfer, having several holes-in-one; she loved playing tennis and competed in the Senior Olympics; she was an accomplished photographer and won awards with the Sun City West, AZ photo competitions where she spent many winters to escape the Minnesota cold.

Frankie was passionate about languages, culture, and people. Her world travels took her to amazing places like Ireland, Patagonia, Costa Rica and Thailand to name only a few! She loved to explore off the beaten paths and immerse herself in local culture. She always said: “You don’t really know a place until you meet the people who live there.”

Frankie could light up a room with her infectious smile, laughter, and positive energy. She loved spending time with her family; from watching the Vikings and hosting game nights, to celebrating German heritage traditions. She was full of life and loved sharing her happiness with everyone. She was the biggest supporter and cheerleader to anyone who needed it.

Frankie was an amazing wife, Mom and Oma, a trusted confidant, and a best friend to many. She made an impact wherever she went and touched the lives of many. She will be dearly missed.

Her visitation will be held on September 27th at 12PM at Path of Grace United Methodist Church in Maplewood, Minnesota, with a Celebration of Life service to be held following the Visitation at 1PM. The Service will be broadcast live via the Path of Grace United Methodist Church YouTube channel for those unable to attend in person.
