Obituary of Nancy Heimbach Claypool
Nancy Heimbach Claypool, 97, died peacefully in the care of St. Luke’s Hospice at Lake View Hospital in Two Harbors, MN on Monday, August 23, 2021. She was born in Duluth, MN at St. Luke’s Hospital to Charlene and Carlisle Heimbach.
Nancy attended Stanbrook Hall at St. Scholastica in Duluth, Westover School in Middlebury, CT, and Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in Boston, MA before her marriage to James H. Claypool in December,1943 at St. Paul’s Church in Duluth.
Nancy volunteered as a member of the Junior League, St. Luke’s Foundation Board, Duluth Housing Authority Board, Northwoods Children’s Home Board, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Altar Guild, Gingerbread House (consignment shop that raised funds for ecumenical Cathedral High School), and Tweed Museum. She enjoyed University for Seniors, and membership in Duluth Woman’s Club, Northland Country Club, and The Kitchi Gammi Club. Her love of gardening, tennis, knitting, needlepoint, entertaining her friends and a view of Lake Superior gave her much joy.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Jim, in August 2012, her parents and her brother Richard B. Heimbach.
She is survived by her children Charlene (Laurence) Hansen of Cohasset, MA; Jim Claypool (Nancy Craven) of Portland, OR; Carlyle (Tom) Conrad of Duluth; Daniel Claypool (Christy Stofko) of Phoenix, AZ; and David (Donna) Claypool of Crosslake, MN. Grandchildren Tom (Kathleen) Hansen, Tucker (Megan) Hansen, Anna Claypool, Meg Claypool, Van Conrad (Ellen Root), Adam (Jenny) Conrad, Caroline (Aaron) Ban, Nathaniel Conrad (Ashlee Dilley), Owen (Aimee) Claypool, Hart (Sarah) Claypool, Danielle (David) Hauslein and Jacqueline (Derek) Peterson, and 22 great grandchildren.
The family is very grateful for her thoughtful caregivers, Mary, Trista and Mary Lou; the staff of St. Luke’s 5W, Waterview Shores, Lake View Hospital and St. Luke’s Hospice.
A memorial service will be held Monday, September 27, 2021, 1:00 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1710 E. Superior St., Duluth MN with Private Inurnment at Forest Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Nancy would appreciate your choice in her memory for the betterment of our Duluth community.
