Obituary of Dorothy Skelly
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the death of Dorothy Mary Farley Skelly this July 4, 2021.
Dorothy, whose birth certificate identifies her as “Female Farley”, was born in the home of her parents in Manhattan, New York on May 21, 1928 as the youngest of six children (five of whom survived childhood) of John and Nora Farley.
Dorothy had 6 children (five surviving childhood). William born 1952, Marian born 1954 (Gary Huber), Thomas born 1956 (Martha Phillips), Michael born 1958 (Sharon Wayne), Elizabeth born 1960 (Tim Koch), and Baby Dorothy, who died at childbirth in 1962.
The family spent a large part of their life in East Northport, New York until a move to Minnesota in 1970. It was quite the adjustment for a Manhattan girl, as she always remained a NY, gal at heart.
Dorothy is also survived by 10 wonderful grandchildren and great grandchildren who they fondly called “Grandma Dolly”: Will, (son of Bill); Kimberly Huber Lee (Andy Lee) , Cynthia Huber Konrath (Ryan Konrath) (children of Marian and Gary); Kiernan and Maggie (children of Thom and Martha); Claire (Wil Mannes) and Patrick (children of Michael and Sharon); Carmen, Matthew (engaged to Julia Stedman), and Camille Koch (children of Elizabeth and Tim); and 4 great grandchildren: Addison and Lydia (children of Kimberly and Andy); and Avery and Olivia (children of Cynthia and Ryan).
Dorothy is preceded in death by her mother Nora, father John, sister Cecilia (who died at birth), John, Madeline, Thomas, Richard, her own daughter Dorothy, and her infant great-granddaughter, Faith.
Dorothy loved to attend Mass, read, watch movies, family trips to the beach and New York City, and visits with “her angels”. Her life created volumes of memories we will cherish for the rest of our lives. We were and remain mom’s/grandma’s Little Sunshines.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in memory of Dorothy on Friday, October 1 at 11:00 AM. Visitation at 10 AM, at IHM Catholic Church, Minnetonka. Light luncheon to follow. Interment to follow the luncheon at Resurrection Cemetery, Shorewood.
Memorial donations in memory of Dorothy may be contributed at NPHUSA.org or the American Cancer Society.
Rest in eternal peace, Mom. Our lives have been enriched by your love.
