Obituary of Michael Burke Scholz
Michael Burke Scholz, 80, of Duluth, MN passed away August 14, 2021 at St Luke’s Hospital from heart failure. He was a kind, thoughtful, strong willed gentleman of deep Christian faith; a one of a kind friend. He enjoyed reading, canoeing, fishing, hiking, camping, skiing and his biggest passion: riding his motorcycle.
Michael was born in St. Paul, MN on January 12, 1941 to Aloysius and Margaret Scholz. He attended Cretin High School, St. Thomas College and Lake Superior College. He served in the US Air Force from October 1959 to September 1962. He was employed by Univac and Electro-Mechanical Research Computer Division as a training manager. In 1976, he was hired by Cray Research to start up their technical training program. Throughout his life he donated many hours of service as a volunteer for Catholic Charities, Lutheran Social Services, Meals on Wheels and the Adoration Chapel.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Donald Scholz; sister-in-law, Anita Scholz; sister, Gretchen Dunbar; sister, Kathryn Scholz.
Michael is survived by his life partner of 27 years, Deanne Nelson; nieces, Jeanine Dunbar, Monica Doxtater and Alba Scholz; great nieces, Nikeia Dunbar and Kayla Dunbar; several great great nieces and nephews; daughters of Deanne, Deb (Dave) Lindroth and Michelle (Brett) Heneise; friends and relatives.
Memorial service with military honors will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 25, 2021 at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
