Obituary of Patricia Pettit Waack
PATRICIA ANN PETTIT WAACK, 94 of Edina and Eden Prairie Adored mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend to all, “P” slipped peacefully away August 3. Predeceased by her husband Donald, son William, and brother, William Thomas. Pat lived a rich, long life as our matriarch and guide. Pat was born March 22, 1927, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to her parents, Kathryn Neely and William Porter Pettit, the day after her mother’s 22nd birthday. She always described her Depression-era childhood as filled with love and happiness. Her children and husband were the joy of her existence. She was a beloved grandmother to her eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A brilliant woman, Pat was a graduate of Iowa State Teachers’ College—now the University of Northern Iowa—and taught high-school English in Iowa. Her lifelong love of poetry and literature were a gift to us all. An Anglophile, she got to know London well, and treasured her European and American travels. Survived by daughters Nancy Andrews (Douglas) of Eden Prairie, Julie Peterson of Wayzata, and their families; former daughter-in-law Susan Waack, of Edina, and her family; four nieces and nephews; and about a million friends. Our special thanks and appreciation to the loving staff at The Waters in Eden Prairie and to those earth angels, Grace Hospice. A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, August 26, at The Cremation Society of Minnesota in Edina. Visitation begins at 12:00, service at 1:00, reception to follow. There will be a private internment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Memorials preferred to Second Harvest.
