WETTERGREN
Gerald “Stretch”
Age 94 of Hugo, MN
Passed away peacefully on July 23rd with his wife and daughter by his side. Born on February 17, 1927 in St. Paul, MN to Harry and Birdelle Wettergren. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Beatrice (Sander) Wettergren and one sister, Harriett Mason of Anaheim, CA. Stretch loved trains as a child and his lifelong dream was to be the “engineer” of the train. He spent 38 years living this dream until he retired in 1986. He and his wife, Beverly then moved to Leesburg, Florida where they made many good friends. They returned to MN in 2000 to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Stretch loved all things “trains”. His hobbies included fishing, golfing, watching the MN Wild and MN Twins. He was an avid reader of train magazines. Stretch is survived by his wife of 37 years, Beverly Wettergren; daughter, Shelly (Dan) Sullivan of Punta Gorda, FL; beloved step-children, Lisa Hanson (Dave Diebel) of Stillwater, MN, Craig (Shelly) Hanson of Spring Creek, NV, and LeAnn (Craig) Martinson of Taylors Falls, MN; 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and many friends from Florida and the railroad. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Association.
