Ed was a teacher and coached Football at Aitkin High School from 1963-64. He returned to UMD in 1964 and was an Assistant Football Coach and also taught several classes in the Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation.

Ed was active and enjoyed the outdoors his whole life. Camping, fishing, hunting and especially working with his beloved Black Labrador Retrievers competing in Field Trials at the Duluth Retriever Club.

He and his wife Barb enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and going South in the winter. They mostly enjoyed their time “at the lake”, the cabin they built together and enjoyed for 40 years on Lake Clara in Lutsen, MN. It was a family place where “Silence is Golden”. He loved having his kids, grand kids, and great grandkids there. Fishing, swimming off the dock, watching the sunsets, listening to the loons, taking saunas and ending our evenings around the campfire.
