Obituary of Carol Jean (Nelson) Holmgren

Carol was born in Duluth, Minnesota on July 26, 1926 and passed away on July 13, 2021.  She was the daughter of William and Helen Nelson.

She graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1944. She married Wayne Holmgren in 1947 and they lived in Duluth their entire lives.  Carol worked for the Soo Line Railroad as the Chief Billing Clerk.  She was a member of the National Association of Railway Women, St. Edward’s Episcopal Church, Brotherhood of Railway Clerks, Girl Scouts of America, Bridge Club, and the Duluth Depot Women’s Association. Carol enjoyed traveling to Hawaii to spend the winter months, reading, and spending time with her family.

Carol is preceded in death by her brother Richard, a daughter Janine, a granddaughter Carrie Lindholm, and her husband Wayne.

She is survived by her daughter Cindy (Mike) Miernicki, son Scott (Linda) Holmgren, daughter Lee (Jim) Lindholm, grandson Jeremy Lindholm, granddaughter Jamie (Nick) Johnson with great-granddaughters Maia and Alexis, step-granddaughters Heather (Darin) Steneman with great-granddaughters Josephine and Lilah: Holly (Matt) Johnson with great-granddaughters Kayla and Ruby.

Carol’s family would like to thank Dr. David Hutchinson, the staff at Mount Royal Pines III and Diamond Willow Lester Park for their care and compassion.

There will be a private family service with burial at Forest Hill Cemetery in Woodland.
