Obituary of George Albert Lucas

George Albert Lucas, 83, of Coon Rapids, MN passed peacefully on June 25, 2021. George was born on July 28, 1937, in Minneapolis, MN to Charles and Grace (Flynn) Lucas. George graduated from South High School in Minneapolis, MN in 1956. In 1957, he served in the 47 th Infantry Division Quartermaster Co of the National Guard. George was a faithful steward of God and dedicated his early years to serving the less fortunate. From 1969-1979, he was a religious Brother of Little Brothers of the Good Shepherd in Albuquerque, NM. He moved to California in 1979 to be close to his brother, Leonard. He served others working in a hospital until his retirement. After his retirement, he returned to Minnesota, where his sister, Rosemary, lived. George lived at Epiphany Pines Senior Housing for 18 years, until moving to Epiphany Assisted Living in 2019. George was a kind and gentle man who loved his family and friends. He always had a smile on his face. He enjoyed his faith, going to Church, watching television, attending family gatherings, dining out, and playing Bingo with his friends. George loved being an active participant in any social event. His sister, Rosemary, and her husband, Arnold, were caregivers to George after he returned to Minnesota. His nieces took over this role in 2017. George and his sister loved one another, and they would talk daily to one another, up until her recent passing. He was a beloved uncle who always remembered birthdays. George was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Grace (Flynn) Lucas, his brother Leonard (Delores) Lucas, his sister, Rosemary (Lucas) Hattling, and his brother-in-law, Arnold Hattling. George is survived by his nieces and nephew, Marie (Rory) Schlichter, Deborah (Downs) Tyler, Timothy (Suzanne) Hattling, Sarah (Dave) Drossel, and Penny (Jerry) Novotny. Grand nieces and nephews, Grace, Angela (Jason), Mary (Corey), Rory, Samantha, Alex (Emily), Alyssa (Josh), Nick (Marissa), Lucas, Zack, Gunner, Jake, Sam, Will, and Katie. Great grand nieces and nephews, River, Titan, April, Haley, Riley, Emily, Brooklyn, Jaiden, Maverick, Nash, Shepard, Mara, and Hunter. A special thank you to the staff at Epiphany Assisted Living in Coon Rapids, Minnesota, Interim Health Care, and Interim Hospice for their loving and compassionate care of George. Visitation will be held on July 28, 2021, at 9:30 AM, followed by the Memorial Service at 10:30 AM, at The Church of Epiphany in Coon Rapids, MN. A luncheon will follow. Burial of his ashes will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Mendota Heights, MN at 2:15 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to Epiphany Assisted Living in Coon Rapids, MN in honor of George. Please specify that donations be used to purchase equipment needed to care for the residents.
