Katharine, Deborah, Bob, Mike, Laurie, DiDi and families, I have so many wonderful memories of your mother and dad over the last seventy+ years. Your parents were close to mine-the sisters kept the connection, always bringing us up to date on the extended family. I remember visiting you in Newton and Katharine’s palomino horse-it was SO impressive to have a cousin with a horse! Your parents had fabulous parties in Newton and I was the lucky beneficiary of the the backdrops and decorations. I gave very cool parties in junior high based on the Owen left overs-there was a Hawaiian party, a roaring twenties party and Hernando’s Hideaway (beatniks). People thought I was cool but it was only because of your parents’ imaginations. In my twenties, we would go to Kansas City for a Chiefs football weekend. Uncle George and I had seats together one game and it was FREEZING. We had to get creative to watch the game and not become ice cubes. Your dad was the master of photos to keep everyone connected. Mother always had them around-there were many pictures of the garden at Lake Minnetonka. I love the one of George with the Lonely Maytag Repair Man. George was the marketing person who brought that very successful campaign to Maytag. The Safely family is now reunited in heaven. And, I’m confident Francis is thrilled to be together with her George again. I hope your friends, family, faith and good memories will sustain you at this time. I send you my deepest sympathy.
