Ted de Lancey

Obituary of Ted de Lancey

de Lancey, Ted aged 91, passed peacefully on May 10, 2021. His final days were spent much like the previous 33,314: surrounded by family, filled with love, and dedicated to bringing happiness to those around him. This dedication echoed throughout his life like his thunderous laugh. Ted founded the Delanco Toy King Company in 1963, whose clients included the first four Target stores. Though not to the same degree, Delanco grew into a multi-state operation. Proud of his work, his company's true legacy is the joy he delivered to incalculable children around the country. Though work took him far and wide (and many winters in sunny San Diego), Ted was a Minnesotan at heart. Born in the Twin Cities on Feb. 1, 1930, Ted graduated from Breck and the University of Minnesota. He spent most of his life in Chanhassen, where his warm hugs and booming voice made his house a home to all in even the coldest winters. The values Ted embodied-goodness, honesty, family, and an entrepreneurial spirit-live on through his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his three children; Dwight (Cilla), Annette, and Kaye (Dan); five grandchildren; Breanne (Jake), Kali (Brian), Ted, Max (Eleanor), and Elli; four great-grandchildren; Bailey, Dean, Jonah and Cash; his extended family; and most importantly his wife and best friend, Kathy. Visitation 10AM, Celebration of Life 11AM Saturday, May 22, Cremation Society of MN, 7110 France Ave., Edina. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial gift to TPT, Twin Cities PBS or a charity of your choice.
