Obituary of Richard Michael Mollers

Master Sergeant Richard Michael Mollers (USMC, Ret, 1960-1980) died peacefully at home with his family on May 1, 2021 from Leukemia.  Dick was born on September 22, 1941 in Glenwood, MN to John Joseph and Grace (Hively) Mollers.  He graduated from De La Salle High School in 1959 and enlisted in the Marine Corps in January of 1960.  During Dick’s time in the Marine Corps he proudly served two tours in Vietnam and earned a variety of awards, including a Single Mission Air Medal w/Bronze Star.

In March of 1980, Dick retired from the Marine Corps and moved his family to Glenwood, MN, where he built the house in which he and Joan raised their daughters, Tina and April.  During their time in Glenwood, Dick worked as the Veterans’ Service Officer of Pope County and tirelessly fought for the benefits and recognition of his fellow veterans.  He was also active in the American Legion at the local and state level and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, and the Marine Corps League.  After Joan retired, they spent winters in Sun City West, AZ.  While there, they enjoyed lawn bowling and golfing; Dick also learned the art of stained glass.

It was common practice for Dick to get involved and find ways to positively impact every community and organization he was a part of.  Dick also had a special storytelling ability and loved to make people laugh with stories of his many adventures and shenanigans.

Dick is survived by his wife of 52 years, Joan, their daughters Tina Mollers and April (Chris) Notsch and grandsons Roman, Elias and Gus.  Dick is also survived by two sons from a prior marriage, Shane (Amy) Mollers, John (Marge) Mollers and grandsons Jake, Kyle, Cody and great-grandson Ki.
