To the family of Doris Rudell: I read your beautiful tribute to your Mom and shared it with my Mom who will be 98 next month. She was one of Doris’ many students who felt they were inspired by her teaching and love of education. Here is my Mom’s response:
Dear Gail:
I thoroughly enjoyed the piece about one of my most favorite teachers, Doris Shella. She was one of the best. She and Dan Dykstra were both rated higher than all the many others. Class of 1940.
Frederic, was my home town as you well--know.
After we married, Han & I delivered our Christmas letters to our friends that lived in Frederic and I always remember stopping at the Rudells. It was always very busy with all those little girls having such a wonderful time. They usually did a little Christmas performance for us which we thought was great. Jane tells me Tessia, and I'm not sure I have her name spelled correctly...was about her age. We left Frederic in 1959 when Han was transferred to Thorp, the home office of Thorp Finance and in time lost track of many former friends. I wonder if she remembers my parents...Louis & Victoria St. Angelo. Mother was Frederic's postmaster for 18 years, and those years I believe and Dad sold cars for Frederic Auto.
Please, kindly let her know how much I appreciated her fine letter about her wonderful mother. Those are such fond memories and thanks for sharing it.
Love you Gail,
Mom
