Obituary of Betty Jean Usack

Betty Jean Usack, 94, of Silver Bay and previously Isabella Minnesota, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 11th, 2021. She was at home in her apartment at Carefree Living, Silver Bay. She was born in Stanley Wisconsin on April 11th, 1927 to Dawson and Odelia Herrick and spent her early years in Jump River Wisconsin. She was one of 6 children. She graduated from Hannibal High School in 1945, and worked at a variety of jobs. She married James Usack on May 6, 1946 in Hannibal. They resided and farmed in the Hannibal, Wisconsin area for several years as they started their family. They moved to northern Minnesota in approximately 1955, ultimately residing in Isabella as they worked and raised their family.

Betty was active in her church, the former Zion Lutheran Church in Finland and thoroughly enjoyed the church activities and fellowship opportunities. She was an avid outdoors person who enjoyed hunting, fishing and simply being in the woods.

She was preceded in death by her husband James, her parents, all 5 of her brothers and sisters and a grandson Ricky Usack. She is survived by her three children, Dawson Usack(Sandy), Linda Paulson (Jim), and William Usack (Penny), grandchildren Sara Sasse (Mike), Todd Usack (Pamela), Matt Paulson, Patrick Paulson (Angie), Tammy Pruse (Aaron), Kristy Cooper (Scott), Jennifer Whereat (Thomas), and Jason Usack. She also had 22 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She had an extended family including many cousins, nieces and nephews, including her special niece Diane Herrick-Schmidt whom she thought of as a daughter. She also had an extensive circle of friends.

The family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to the staff at Carefree Living in Silver Bay for the care, kindness and compassion they showed her in her final days.

A private graveside service will be held at the Isabella Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are provided by Cremation Society of Minnesota.
