Obituary of Susan Jane Schafer
Susan “Suzie” Jane (Bovre) Schafer, 75, of St. Paul, passed away peacefully on March 18th 2021, at home surrounded by her family.
Suzie was born on May 21st, 1945 in Stoughton, WI to Arnold and Pearl (Feller) Bovre. She grew up in the Madison area and graduated from Belleville HS in 1963. After graduation, Suzie moved to Colorado Springs where she worked as a civilian at the Air Force Academy. Here she met her husband-to-be, an Air Force bugler named Brad Schafer. They were married in 1967 in Belleville and eventually settled in Kenosha where they lived for 23 years. In retirement, they moved to Sartell and then St. Paul to be closer to their grandchildren.
Suzie was proud of her Norwegian and Swiss heritage. She travelled to Norway five times, once with her entire family in order to visit their ancestral farm. Suzie was a proud grandmother to 6 grandchildren who she loved caring for. She also enjoyed flowers, art, and playing cards. She attended Unity Unitarian in St. Paul. About the only things that Suzie seemed afraid of were heights and getting her hair wet in the pool!
Suzie was preceded in death by her parents Arnold and Pearl Bovre, her step-father Clarence Fritz, brothers Marcus and Donald Bovre, stepbrother Victor Fritz and nephew Marques Bovre Jr. She is survived by her husband Brad; her brother Michael Bovre; her sisters-in-law Sue Bovre, Paula Schafer and Mary Schafer (Mark); her children Erich (Lori) Schafer, Nich (Shannon) Schafer, and Emily (Ben) Wallace; her grandchildren Evan, Connor, Henry, Tulla, Ayela, and Adelyn; and her friend from Norway Brit Skullerud.
We will miss, and always remember Suzie. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic a private memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to your local food bank would be appreciated.
