Obituary of Esther Sand
Esther (Trabing) Sand was born in Mitchell, South Dakota on February 25, 1944 to Mildred (Easton) Earl Trabing. Esther grew up in Hanson County, Fulton, South Dakota, the oldest of five children. She often talked about her childhood memories of driving the tractor and milking the cows. Esther attended Plano School and went to secretary school in Nebraska, which led her to working at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C, where she met President Lyndon B. Johnson and Lady Bird Johnson. She returned to Mitchell and worked at Dakota Manufacturing. She later moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota and continued working for the federal government.
Esther married Samuel Sand in Mitchell on May 27, 1972. After having her own children, she operated an in-home daycare for several years. In 1990 she began driving a school bus in the Osseo 279 School District. She loved driving A bus, especially when taking kids to different sporting events. She enjoyed the many connections she made with the kids, teachers, school staff and police liaison officers over the thirty years of driving a school bus. Her greatest joys in life were her children and grandchildren. She loved watching them in all their sports and activities.
Esther is preceded in death by her parents, Mildred (Easton) and Earl Trabing, and her husband, Samuel Sand. She is survived by her children: Brian Sand (Emily), Brice Sand (Laura), Kurt Sand (Kaitlin), and Kara Keillor (Brandon); grandchildren: Skye, Sydney, Gabriella, Easton, William, Benjamin, McKenna, Evan; and siblings: Judy (Donnie) Cheeseman, Roberta (Brad) Johnson, Barbara (Trabing) Connett, and Rodney Trabing.
Memorial for Esther Sand will be April 5th, 2021, 11am, at St. Alphonsus Church in Brooklyn Center, MN. The memorial will be live streamed for those who cannot attend in person. Link: https://fb.me/e/1rdKek7wZ
