Obituary of Kathryn Beverly Johnson

Kathryn (Kathy) Johnson, 80, of Minnetonka, MN, passed away December 24, 2020. She was born to the late Thomas (Tom) and Pearl (Perle) Johnsrud Mehegan, in Thief River Falls, MN. Kathryn graduated from Central High School (’58) in Grand Forks, ND and attended the University of North Dakota as well as the University of Texas, El Paso.

Kathryn is survived by her two children: Jennifer of Eagan, MN and Michael of El Paso, TX. She is also survived by her grandchildren Jocelyn, Santa Monica, CA and Brian, El Paso, TX, as well as many other people that she loved as family.

Kathryn was proud to be a US Army Officer’s wife early in her life and spent time at Ft. Snelling, Ft. Sill and Ft. Bliss. Kathryn enjoyed being the Promotions Director at the Red River Valley Potato Growers Association, in Grand Forks. She also worked at the Westward Ho, Mandel’s and the Town House Motor Inn while in Grand Forks. Kathryn moved to the Twin Cities and started a new career as an Optician. Later in life, she loved working with children and their families at Northwest Eye Clinic, where she ultimately retired in 2010. Kathy is remembered fondly for her flair for life and her effervescent demeanor. 

She loved: Her family, Her Garden, Her Car - ThxMike, Glasses, Fairies, Anything crafty and creative, Playing (and winning!) at Scrabble / Words with Friends or winning any game accidentally!, Decorating and giving gifts.

There will be a Celebration of Kathryn’s life on July 22nd, 2021 at 10 a.m., at Lakewood Cemetary in Minneapolis, MN. Memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans or the American Heart Association.
