Obituary of Lilah Irene Child
Lilah Irene (Haugen) Child, 96, of the Primrose Retirement Community, went heavenward to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, December 7, 2020. She died peacefully in her sleep while in hospice at St. Luke’s Hospital, Duluth, MN.
Lilah was born March 16, 1924, in Larimore, North Dakota, to Sever and Annie Haugen. She attended high school in Larimore and afterwards enrolled in Aakers Business College, where she graduated in 1943.
In 1944, Lilah became a Navy Wave. She served as a yeoman during World War II from 1944-1946. On December 22, 1945, she married Lieutenant Richard Child in Forestville, Maryland. They were married until Richard died in March of 2001.
Lilah was preceded in death by her parents Sever and Annie Haugen, husband Richard, sister Carol Kappedal, brother Francis, and son Corydon. She is survived by her three daughters, Reba (Robert) Almquist, Diane Bradford-Hunt, and Patricia (Peter) Holte, five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
Lilah’s family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Primrose, as well as her caregivers at St. Luke’s Hospice. Due to COVID-19, a memorial service will not be held. The family will gather at a later date for a private burial.
