Obituary of Gloria Cyrine Stone
Gloria Cyrine Stone, age 94, of Duluth, Minnesota passed away peacefully to be with her Lord on Sunday, December 13, 2020, with her children at her side. Her happy, sweet, loving spirit will be missed by all who knew her. She was born at her family home in Pike-Sandy, Minnesota. She attended Embarrass High School and graduated from Duluth’s St Luke’s Nursing School during WWII. Gloria was married to Farnam “Chick” Stone for 64 years. They built their first home together in Woodland where they raised their three children. She worked as an RN for St. Luke’s Hospital and was active in St Luke’s Alumni Association, St Paul’s Episcopal Church Women’s group, and the Duluth Curling Club for many years.
Gloria was the chief organizer of the Lake Vermilion family cabin, camping and fishing vacations, and trips to sunny Florida--creating fun family memories. Chick and Gloria became snowbirds in retirement, wintering with Duluth friends in Florida, Arizona and Texas. They enjoyed Caribbean cruises, travels in Europe and Scandinavian countries, and Hawaiian vacations. She loved her pets including her dog Ginger and many cats all named Kissa (cat in Finnish).
She is survived and missed by children Sally (Zoe) Tempelis, Corinne (Barry) Baker and Charles (Lily) Stone, her grandchildren Andreas, Nicholas, Carolyn, Brooke, Benjamin, Alexander, Elizabeth, Katherine, Aubrey, five great-grandchildren, sister Emily (William) Wennen, brother-in-law Michael Stone and many nieces, nephews and friends. Gloria was preceded in death by her husband Chick, her parents Toivo and Saima Matts, brothers Morris and Leslie Matts and sister Elsie Esala. We thank the staff of Beehive Home for more than 5 years of wonderful care of Gloria and Chick. We thank Moments Hospice staff for their care and guidance.
Due to Covid restrictions, her children will have a private graveside service at Forest Hill Cemetery. Should friends and family desire, donations are appreciated to the Minnesota Alzheimer’s Association.
