Obituary of Lauren Ernest Wold

Lauren Ernest Wold, age 77, passed away peacefully at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on December 21, 2020, with his loving wife of thirty years holding his hand.

Lauren was born at Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota on September 28, 1943, to Ernest and Lillian (Anderson) Wold. Shortly after his birth, his father Ernie was deployed to the Pacific. Lauren and Lillian lived during the war with her parents in south Minneapolis. Brother Brian was born four years later after Ernie returned to Minnesota.

Lauren is survived by his wife Jo Susan Wold; daughter Alena (William) Flowers; grandchildren Justin, Micayla and Jacqui; and his brother Brian (Dr. Suzanne Harris) Wold of Tucson, Arizona. Lauren was preceded in death by his parents, Lillian and Ernie.

Lauren graduated from Richfield High School in Richfield, Minnesota in 1961. He attended the University of Minnesota until the fall of 1965 when he took time out to join the Coast Guard. He was honorably discharged from active duty in December 1966, then served an additional six years in the Coast Guard Reserve.

He graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Architecture in March of 1968. He was a member of Alpha Rho Chi architecture fraternity. Lauren practiced his profession as a Registered Architect until his retirement.

Lauren was an artist, an avid sailor and a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was passionately interested in history and politics and loved a good debate over the state of the world.

Arrangements have been made with the Cremation Society of Minnesota. A celebration of life will be held sometime this summer when family and friends are able to gather together again. If you wish to make a donation in Lauren’s honor, the family asks that you help your local food shelf.
