Obituary of Sharon Ruth Hellman

Hellman, Sharon Ruth of Bloomington, MN died peacefully at home, surrounded by her family and her pets, on December 28th. She was 84 years old. Born in Rapid City, South Dakota to Wayland and Mildred Simkins, Sharon grew up in Boulder, Colorado where she attended Mount St. Gertrude's Academy and Sacred Heart Catholic Schools, and Boulder High School. She married Walter Hellman in 1959, and together they lived in various places until settling in Bloomington in the spring of 1967. Sharon was a wonderful mom to six kids, plus many other kids in our neighborhood. She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings Jack Simkins (Sharlotte) and Judy Copeland (Ted), and her beloved son, Terry. Sharon is survived by her husband, Walt; sons Todd (Kathy) and Tony (Amy); daughters Becky Voissem (David), Carla Zenk (Kelly) and Carol Robbel (Ray); 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Our family is grateful to Margaret Steeves, of Heavenly Angels Caregivers and the wonderful nurses and aides at Brighton Hospice (Sara, Brenda, Emmy and Whitney). They were Sharon's wonderful caregivers, and they became our friends. A memorial service will be held later this year. We request memorials to be sent to her favorite charities, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and the ASPCA.
