Obituary of Eva Kay Singh

Eva Kay Singh (Berg, O’Donnell), 74 of Minneapolis passed away on Tuesday, November 24, 2020. She had been in the hospital fighting to recover from many health complications.

Born on November 8, 1946 in Franklin, MN to Lloyd and Faye Berg (Koelln). She was the third of eight children and grew up in rural, Southwestern, Minnesota where she attended a country school as a child and Franklin high school as a teen. She was a free spirit that marched to the beat of her own drum and in the early 1960’s she left the country for the city.

Throughout the next several decades she lived passionately and had relationships that resulted in five children. She explored several career paths; attending beauty school in the early ‘60’s, working at the Cozy bar in North Minneapolis in the early ‘70’s and becoming a nursing assistant and being employed at thrift stores around the metro area in the mid ‘80’s. But the rebel in her was fierce so settling down and conforming to society norms was not to be.

The rest of the 80’s and in to the 90’s, Eva was on a tangled path that would eventually lead to a long period away from her family. In the early 2000’s, age, experience and wisdom slowed her down and she was home again. There were many ups and downs through these years; reconnecting with family, surviving ovarian cancer, going out and about with friends, moving to a senior living apartment, spending time with her children and grandchildren and having to deal with the challenges of her declining respiratory health.

Eva moved around a lot and made friends easily. Her compassion and love were second to none when she took you under her wing. Because of this, she was beloved by many and had quite the extended family. She overcame so many challenges in her life that she rarely accepted things at face value. She took pride in proving that your “impossible” was very possible to her. Eva definitely had the will and usually found a way. She did it again in on November 4 th , moving from the Nursing home to an Assisted Living facility.

Forever in our hearts and always loved, Eva is preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Faye and a grandson, Aristotle (Otis). She is survived by her children; Michael, Gina (Tony), Otis, Sadrina and Steven, her siblings; Karen, Edward, Kay, Dianne, Robin, Dennis and Pamela, 19 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, tons of extended family including cousins, nieces, nephews and informally adopted children and grandchildren.

Eva requested cremation and a celebration of life with family and friends for her final farewell. The first request has been honored and the other will hopefully happen in the Spring of 2021 (COVID-19 restrictions allowing). Burial will follow at Franklin cemetery. Arrangements are by Cremation Society of Minnesota.
