Obituary of David Hancock
David Luverene Hancock of Sandstone, MN passed away at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth, MN on December 3rd, 2020.
He is survived by his children; Leah (Travis) Schultz, Jay (Stacy) Anderson, Joshua (Denisa) Hancock, Caleb (Dixie) Hancock, Dakota (Kyle) Shearer, Chase (Georgi) Hancock, and Harlee Hancock; grandchildren; Mason, Cayli, Sean, Finnigan, Annika, Keegan, Theodore, Vincent, Keira, Emma, Adam, Astoria and Kacen; and siblings; John Hancock, Steve (Cheryl) Hancock, Vicky (Will) Tanis. He is preceded in death by his parents, Luverene and Merie Hancock, sister, Joan Johnson, and son, Skye Hancock.
Dave was born February 27th, 1957 in Pine City, MN. He is the youngest of five siblings, a self declared baby of the family. He graduated from Pine City High School in 1975 with the title of “Best Dressed”, which he often boasted about. From high school, Dave started working as a construction laborer and became a skilled welder. In the fall of 1976, he married Catherine (Anderson). In 1980, Dave and Cathy took over the family farm after Luverne was injured. Dave was proud to be a hard working dairy farmer for 15 years of his life. He worked tirelessly from sunup to past sundown, milking the cows, harvesting the fields, and making sure all the animals were fed. Many have fond memories of life on the Hancock Dairy Farm. Together Dave and Cathy had three Children: Leah, Josh and Caleb.
In later years, he met Dee, whom he married in 1992. Dave and Dee also had three children together Chase, Skye, and Harlee, and he was the father to Dee’s children Dakota and Jay. David was very proud of all his children and grandchildren and shared in making many happy memories with them such as making caramel popcorn and fudge, watching cartoons or movies together or sledding down “Killer” hill or his favorite, fishing.
David was a skilled craftsman and woodworker, a trait passed down from his father. He could create just about anything, as long as he could do it his way and at his own time. Dave was also a collector of many things including coins and agates, which he filled his pockets and many jars. David was most at ease outside whether it was tinkering on a project, hiking or taking Susie Q for a bike ride.
To know David Hancock was to have a friend and he had many. He loved a good joke, sometimes even a really bad joke. Dearest Dave, your big SMILE and Laugh will be forever missed.
