Obituary of Martha H Opitz

Martha H. Opitz, age 91 of Hopkins, passed away peacefully at home in the presence of family on Nov 21. Martha was born Feb 4, 1929 in Bayreuth, Germany to Fridolin and Anna (Burkhardt) Haupt, lived thru the harrowing times during WWII with the loss of many family and friends. Martha graduated from technical school as an accountant, worked for the Sun newspapers and Red Owl offices, was a fantastic cook who loved her Bavarian cuisine. She loved classical music, animals of all sorts, visits back to Germany, Gooseberry Falls and camping, and being our Oma. Survived by husband Firmus; sons, Michael (Joan) and Tom; daughter, Heidi; 10 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren; many family and friends in Germany; favorite cat Rudy. Preceded in death by parents, brothers, Emil (WWII), and Wilhelm; sister, Dora Maertirer; son, Daniel. Private service has been held and burial will be at Ft Snelling. Memorials can be sent to AHS, FMSC or Union Gospel Mission.
