Obituary of Martin Edwin Lorntson
Martin Edwin Lorntson (Mickey) of Beaver Bay and Waterview Shores Assisted Living Center of Two Harbors passed away October 12, 2020. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 24 at the Duluth Chapel of the Cremation Society of Minnesota located at 4100 Grand Ave. in Duluth. There will be a visitation at 2pm, with the service to follow at 3pm, and also a luncheon at the same location following the service. Guests are asked to wear face masks.
Mickey was born May 28, 1927 in Two Harbors to Conrad and Fern Lorntson. He worked at a variety of occupations associated with the North Shore as a young adult, but his main occupation for 30 years was a foreman at Reserve Mining Company in Silver Bay. Mickey was also widely known as a commercial herring fisherman as he spend 50 years of his life in that passion. Mickey also spent two years serving this country in the US Navy. Near the end of his training on a minesweeper, WW2 ended, so he never was involved in actual combat. He returned home and met the love of his life, Patricia Held, and was married on June 18, 1948.
Mickey is survived by his four children, John, Tom (Carol), Bill (Annette), and Dick (Nancy), along with 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Pat, his parents Conrad and Fern, his sister Patsy Reed, his brother Jimmy, his infant son Timothy, and his foster daughter Kay Litzenberger.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that guests consider making donations to Disabled Veterans of America, or the North Shore Commercial Fishing Museum, or a charity of their choice.
