Obituary of Deanna Muir

Deanna (Dee) Muir, 71, lost her battle with cancer on Saturday, October 3rd. For the last several years, she called Spring Lake Park, MN her home.

Dee was born in Grafton, ND to Doug and Francis Muir. She graduated from Abraham Lincoln Senior High School in Bloomington, MN. She married David Hathaway and together they had two children, David, and Kenyon to complete a family of five with Dee’s first born, William McDonald. Dee and David parted ways a few years later, and Dee established a career in the insurance business. She later married Delmar Anderson, and the family settled in South Minneapolis. Dee and her family were involved in the American Legion, the bowling league, Minnesota Kicks soccer, and the occasional North Stars game. Her greatest strength during this time was being the glue that held the extended family together.

With children grown and the dissolution of her marriage with Delmar, Dee moved to California, and started a new career in hospitality management. Mom married Richard Lavigne and called California home for five years. She lost her husband to emphysema and move back to Minnesota with a brief stay in Yankton, SD. She retired from hospitality management in 2011 when she settled in Spring Lake Park with her companion Ronald Johnson.

Dee is survived by her children, William (Bill) McDonald (Connie), and David Hathaway, her four grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren; her brothers, Merle McDonald (Sandy), Lee McDonald, and Randy McDonald (Pat); and her longtime friend and companion, Ronald (Ron) Johnson.

Dee was preceded in death by husbands, Delmar Anderson, and Richard Lavigne; her youngest son Kenyon Hathaway and brother, Mark Muir.

There will be a Celebration of Life Saturday, October 10th, from 1 -5 PM at the Cremation Society of Minnesota 4343 Nicolette Avenue S, Minneapolis, MN, 55409.
