Obituary of Marion Messenger

Marion Messenger passed away at 94 years old on September 15,2020 at The Waters on Mayowood in Rochester MN; her home of over 4 years. Marion was born to Harold and Esther Haagensen on February 16, 1926 in Minneapolis, MN. She started working for the Rock Island Railroad directly out of High School, and was a clerk there for 35 years. She married Walter Crest in 1947. They had three children, Russell, Darcy, and Joe. Marion was a working Mom, who was protective, loving, and nurturing. She was dedicated to her husband, her children, and her work. Marion later married Don Messenger in 1978. They lived a few years in Washington DC, and then returned to the Minneapolis suburbs. Soon after Don’s death, Marion moved to The Villages, Florida. Her brother and sister also lived there where they all enjoyed the sunshine among many activities. Marion kept a full schedule there inside and out, until she was 90 years old.

Marion loved bowling, golf, Bridge, cards, reading novels, movies and being among family and friends. Words that people have used to describe Marion during her life, and of recent include: sweet, kind, thoughtful, classy, gracious, warm, and unassuming. She had a way of making others feel good.

She is survived by her son, Joe Crest (Cindy) of Rochester, MN, Son – in law, Bob Jacobson of Rochester, MN, Sister, Lois of The Villages, FL, Grandchildren, Sara Sawyer, (Andrew) of Bloomington, MN, Jason Crest of Minneapolis, MN, great grandchildren, Jack and Sam Sawyer. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Walter Crest and Donald Messenger, sister - Loretta Luppino, brother - Harry Haagensen, son - Russell, daughter - Darcy, and daughter– in law - Leslie Crest.

A private graveside service with family will be held in Mendota Heights, MN. A special thank you to the wonderful staff at The Waters on Mayowood for all their love and care.
