Obituary of David Warren Willis

David Warren Willis, age 63, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 12, 2020. He was born August 8, 1957 to Patricia and William F. Willis, Jr., in Duluth.

He grew up in Duluth Heights in a close neighborhood community. He graduated in 1976 from Central High School and began working for the DWP Railroad retiring in 2012.

David married Brenda Lunde on September 11, 2004. He is survived by his wife; his son Jacob Willis; step-daughter, Lora Skarman; his mother, Patricia; brothers Glenn (Kathy), Hoyt Lakes, MN; Ron (Jacki), Esko, MN; and Scott (Terri) Hermantown; sisters Debi (Darrel) Youngblom, Duluth; and Cindy (Brad) Hipsher, Crystal, MN.

David was preceded in death by his father, step-son Joseph Skarman; grandmother, Violet Nakari, and grandparents, William Sr. and Katherine Willis.

As the above picture shows, David was happiest at his cabin on Whiteface Lake. Memories were made when he and Brenda would tour the lake on their “champagne cruises”, taking the family for rides on the pontoon boat, always with pets Shaya and most recently his shadow, Ruby.

Although he struggled with some demons, he was one of the most hard-working and intelligent people we knew. We will miss him and pray he has found peace in this next journey.

Memorials can be given to the Animal Allies Humane Society, 4006 Airport Rd., Duluth, MN 55811. Due to COVID, there will be no funeral. Family will get together to spread his ashes per his wishes.
