Brian was a friend at Carleton. He gave me a horseshoe once, which I found a surprising and unusual gift. Later in life, when I spent years playing Irish music on my fiddle with an Irish band, and got to know alot of Irish people, it made sense! During his senior year at Carleton, Brian at times expressed much frustration with the expense of higher education, and it seemed as if his desire to get advanced degrees might not be possible. Reading his obit, it's so good to see that he was able to pursue those, and indeed surrounded himself with books and continuous learning.
