Obituary of Evelye Mae Thomas
Evelye Mae (Johnson) Thomas, 95, passed peacefully from this life to the next on July 16, 2020, surrounded by her loving family, in person and in spirit.
Evelye was born May 31, 1925 to Ruth Ulrika (Werner) and Arvid Benjamin Johnson in Melby, MN. She graduated from Evansville High School in 1942, attended Normal Training in Glenwood, MN and taught 1st thru 8th grade for many years in rural Douglas County. She and her husband Howard R Thomas Jr. were married in 1945 and raised their six children in Bloomington, MN. They celebrated 50 years together before he passed in 1996. Evelye was a woman of great faith and kindness. She was a long time member of Southtown Baptist Church in Bloomington. She moved to Heritage of Edina, Assisted Living Community in 2012 and received wonderful care from the staff there. Evelye loved her family and looked for the good in everyone. She enjoyed reading, playing the piano, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her sons: Howard (Nancy), John (Linda), Richard (Lori) and Jim (Dottie); daughter, Ruth Garcia; her sister Elaine Anderson (Weber), sister-in-law Suzanna Johnson, brother-in-law Bruce Hanson, son-in-law John Divens; grandchildren Juan, Nathan, Sarah, Aaron, Skye, Kelly, Mishtu, Jessica, Andrew, Allison, Abigail, Christian, Michael; many great & great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard R Thomas Jr, her daughter, Misha Divens, her sisters, Bernice Lenore Johnson and Marilyn (Mim) Hanson and brother Benjamin Arlen Johnson.
A Memorial Service/Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
