Obituary of Larry Overby

Larry Overby, 78 Passed away peacefully, August 12, 2020 after battling a long illness of many strokes.  Larry was born Sept 5, 1941 to Lena & Stanley (Red) Overby of Cando, No. Dak.  He married Bernice (Rader) of Starkweather, No. Dak. On Feb 19, 1966.  Larry & Bernice lived in Pardeeville, WI for many years and then moved to Lakeville, MN in 1982 - where they still call home.  Larry was what he called a “Telephone Man” - he could repair any phone problems in a building or outside in the underground cables.  Larry soon taught Bernice how to do the same.  Together they built their own Telephone Contract Business, contracting their “Cable Splicing” expertise to many different telephone companies in the Midwest and West Coast.  Over the years, they spliced many thousands of miles of telephone cables.  Larry’s #1 passion was “Clay Target Trap Shooting”.  He was what they called “One of the Best”.  Larry was always a Marksman since a young boy growing up in Cando, No. Dak. but seriously got into Trapshooting when he was 25 years old after Larry & Bernice moved to Wisconsin.  Larry was on the Minnesota State Trap Team & the Wisconsin State Trap Team for many years.  He was always proud of the numerous trophies and accomplishments.  Over the years some of his closest friends came from the Trapshooting World.  Larry is survived by his wife of 54 years, Bernice, & his daughter, Brenda Stafford (Joe Hertzog) of Lakeville, MN. & his Son, Eric Overby (Kelley) of Farmington, MN.  Grandchildren – Dalten Stafford, Slade Stafford, Gage Overby, Justis Overby, Raedyn Overby, Brad Hertzog, & two Great Grandchildren, Maddy & Maxwell, Mother-in-law – Annie Rader.  Larry was preceded in death by his parents and his two infant sisters; Mary Kay & Mary Margaret; Son-in-Law Danny Stafford, & Brother & Sister in Law, Jim & Sandi Rader.  Celebration of Larry’s Life will be At the Cremation Society of Minnesota - 7110 France Ave – Edina, MN on August 22 from 1:00-4:00.  They practice Safe Covid Distancing.
