Obituary of Alison Leigh Larson
Alison (Ali) Larson, 34, of Superior, passed away on July 28 peacefully at home after an 11 month fight with colorectal cancer. Her family was by her side.
Ali was born on October 21, 1985 in St. Paul, MN, and spent her first 12 years living in Inver Grove Heights, MN. In 1997, she moved to Duluth with her parents and dog Hunny. Ali attended Woodland Middle School and graduated in 2004 from Duluth East High School. Following high school, Ali attended Lake Superior College, St. Scholastica College and UMD. Ali became a Nursing Assistant and was employed at Bayshore before joining St. Luke’s Hospital in 2011 as a Nursing Assistant, then moving on to become an Endoscopy Tech within the St. Luke’s Gastroenterology group. Ali loved her job and her co-workers and was very disappointed when she was unable to return to work following her cancer diagnosis.
Ali loved sports and started playing softball and basketball at age 8. She began playing traveling basketball at age 10 and began volleyball in middle school, playing both through high school. While at East, she lettered in both sports and was varsity co-captain her senior year for volleyball. She played inter-murals in college and in volleyball rec leagues, playing sand volleyball up to her diagnosis last summer. She also co-coached Club North and Duluth East JV volleyball while in college. Her love for sports extended to both college and pro sports. She loved the Green Bay Packers from her early years stemming from her admiration for Brett Favre. Last December she, Mark and Kaylee were able to see their first Packers vs. Vikings game at U.S. Bank stadium. Ali followed the U of M and UMD hockey, as well as Wisconsin Badger football and hockey.
Ali loved travel and her favorite places were anywhere there was sunshine and a beach. She traveled to many fun places in Mexico, Jamaica, and Puerto Rico, as well as many places in the United States. She loved spending the summer at Balsam Lake when she was young, and more recently, 4 wheeling and enjoying a relaxing bonfire at the land in Ino.
Ali loved to play games and have fun with her family. Whether it was a board game or card game, Ali was up for it. She also was a tough one to beat in ladder golf, corn hole, miniature golf, or even bowling. Family time was always a fun time. “Fun on the Farm” was a family motto.
Eleven years ago, Ali met Mark, her soul mate and life partner and moved to Superior. Together they blessed us with a beautiful daughter Kaylee, the light of Ali’s life, and her mini-me. Kaylee definitely inherited Ali’s love for life as well as her beautiful smile.
Ali always had a smile on her face and no matter where she was, she brought that smile and a ray of sunshine to those around her. From her family to friends to co-workers, that smile always made someone’s day brighter.
Ali is survived by her mom, Julie; dad, Bob; significant other Mark; daughter Kaylee; grandmother Dorothy Williams; her cat Henry; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.
She is preceded in death by her nana and papa, Elwood and Gerane Larson; grandpa John Williams; aunt Liz Williams; and her beloved dogs Hunny and Max.
Heaven has gained a beautiful soul who’s love and compassion for others and fight for life will never be forgotten. She will always be our sunshine and our angel.
There will be an outdoor funeral service for Ali on August 22, 2020 at 1pm. at Concordia Lutheran Church, 2501 Woodland Ave. Duluth, MN. Due to COVID-19, social distancing and face masks will be required.
