Charles Main, Jr

Obituary of Charles A Main, Jr

Charles A. Main, Jr. (Chuck) passed away on July 4, 2020 from chronic respiratory disease. Chuck was born on December 17, 1950. He graduated from Denfeld High School in 1969. Chuck played drums in the Denfeld High School stage, pep and marching bands. Following high school, he worked briefly for the Duluth Missabe & Iron Range Railway before deciding to pursue a career in music. He played in a number of rock ‘n roll bands regionally and across the country before joining Atlantis II in 1975. Atlantis II achieved considerable fame throughout the upper midwest, and opened for leading rock acts including Black Oak Arkansas and Head East. By 1978, the band had regrouped as the Centerville All-Stars, and again achieved considerable regional success. Chuck continued as drummer for the All-Stars until retiring from the music business in 2000, except for occasional guest gigs and benefits. He was a long-time member of the Duluth Musicians Union.

Chuck was a fanatical Vikings fan, an avid reader and a dedicated history buff. His special interest was the life and assassination of John F. Kennedy, a topic to which much of his fairly extensive personal library was dedicated.

Chuck is survived by three children: Charles A. Main III and Michelle Main DeMenge of Cloquet, and Kala Main of Duluth; grandsons Kyle Dion, Christian Main, and Camden Aubrey Main. Also surviving are his siblings, Marsha Main Kelly, Las Vegas NV; Frank Main, Proctor; Victoria Main, Superior; and John Main, Shakopee MN; and his devoted nephew, Patrick Kelly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles A. Main, Sr. and Barbara Main.

Due to the restrictions of the COVID-19 crisis, a memorial gathering will be held at a later date.
