Vicki Brown

Obituary of Vicki Jo Brown

Brown, Vicki Jo

Born May 4, 1953, Vicki Jo Brown was the sixth and very much loved child of George and Marilyn Brown. Named by her father and adored by her entire family, doctors insisted she would not live beyond her third birthday. Vicki Jo came from strong, stubborn stock though, and while her life was never easy she herself insisted on a full 67 birthdays before she was ready to go.

Vicki Jo grew up in an era in which expectations for those with cognitive and physical impairments were low and opportunities were few. She endured much difficulty and heartache and used her extraordinary strength to become an adult who worked, had friends, and was an essential part of her family. She meant absolutely everything to her mother, who fought her entire life to ensure she was treated with dignity and care. She would have been so very proud of how her other children continued that legacy of guardianship, ensuring the final years of her life were filled with advocacy, respect, and so much love.

Vicki Jo passed away on July 25, 2020 and is preceded in death by her beloved parents George Brown Sr. and Marilyn May Brown. She is survived by her siblings George Brown Jr. (Debbie), Donald Brown (Kim), Linda McGough (John), Mary Brown, Nancy Carrier (Pete), David Brown (Lisa), and many adoring nieces and nephews. She was also loved by many special caregivers and healthcare providers throughout her life, to whom our family will always be grateful. Everyone she leaves behind is better for having had the gift of knowing her.

Due to the dangers presented by COVID-19, service and burial will be private. Our family regrets the circumstances but is grateful for your condolences and understanding. Memorials preferred to Jobs Plus Waseca, Vicki Jo's employer of more than 20 years.
