Obituary of William Clark

William (Bill) Clark, 81, of Duluth, died March 13, 2020.

Bill Clark was born July 22, 1938, in Peoria, IL to Bernice (Mohs) and William Clark. He was raised in Peoria until the age of 12. After his father died, he moved with his mother to be closer to family in South St. Paul, MN and completed high school at South St. Paul High School. He attended Hamline University before joining the Navy where he served honorably for six years on the Tinosa and the Scorpion submarines. Following his Naval service, he trained to become a pilot in Massachusetts and after completing his training he moved to Minot, ND to fly for a real estate developer. He met Carolyn Juhala there and later they were married in Los Angeles, CA in 1966. In 1970, they moved to St. Paul, MN where they began raising a family. In 1973, Bill and Carolyn moved to Litchfield, MN where he had accepted a position as a pilot for Johnson Brothers Construction. In 1979, they moved their young family to Duluth where Bill worked as a pipeline patrol pilot for Lakehead Pipeline Co. (now Enbridge) and later he worked in the pipeline maintenance department. He officially retired in 2003 but returned to part time work for the next six years at Enbridge as a safety consultant contractor.

Bill was a member of Pilgrim Congregational Church. He enjoyed swimming and running, and was a lifeguard in his youth. He was dedicated to the well-being and success of his family as he balanced his career. In his retirement he golfed, traveled, and took many University for Seniors courses at UMD often selecting history and art courses. He liked keeping up with current events and politics. In later years he relayed endless stories of his life experiences from his time in the Navy and as a pilot.

Bill is survived by his two sons, William (Jennifer) Clark, Duluth, and David Clark, Duluth; one daughter Susan (James Walker) Clark of Atlanta, GA; & five grandchildren, Nathan Anderson Clark, Chloe Clark, Nicholas Clark, Sofia Walker and William Walker.

He was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn and his parents.

Memorials can be made to Pilgrim Congregational Church.

Service will be held Friday July 24th at Forest Hill Cemetery Chapel, 1pm Visitation 2pm Service. Visitation is open to all friends and family, service is limited to 30 people. Social distancing and masks are requested of visitors.
