Obituary of Grace Bernice Peterson

Grace Bernice Peterson, 95, of Duluth, passed peacefully on July 24, 2020, in St. Mary’s Hospital. She was lovingly surrounded by her family.

Grace was born February 5, 1925, in Midway Township to Adolph and Edna Erickson. She was the eldest of 18 siblings. She graduated from Proctor High School in 1943, and completed St. Luke’s Nursing School in 1946.

Grace was a life-long caregiver and nursed for many years at St Mary’s, the Fargo VA Medical Center (ND), and the Parkland Health Facility (South Range, WI). She was always there to accompany family members in need and exemplified a life of service. She was a loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.

Grace married Warren O. Peterson in Duluth on November 25, 1946. She enjoyed working with her hands in the garden, walking, sewing, creating stained glass, baking, and preparing family meals. She loved to read and spend time with her family. She appreciated the simple joys in life and was grateful for each day.

Grace is survived by her son Warren (Phyllis) Peterson of Clover Valley; Grandsons Jesse Peterson of Minneapolis and Jelm Peterson of Clover Valley; Granddaughter Morgan (Bobby) Bursiel of Fairbanks, AK; Great Granddaughter Makena Froebel of Minneapolis; a special “son” Lowell Beglinger of Minong, WI, and 13 of her siblings and their families.

She was preceded in death by her husband Warren, daughter Catherine, and five of her siblings.

Grace will be buried at Forest Hill Cemetery with a small gathering of immediate family. A celebration of life is planned for a future time. Memorial gifts may be made to Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank, 4503 Airpark Blvd, Duluth, MN 55811.
