Obituary of Roy B. McQuin

Roy B. McQuin  (1924-2020)

Age 96, of Apple Valley, MN, passed away July 10, 2020, while a resident at Good Samaritan Society in Inver Grove Heights.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Sylvia (Holme) McQuin; a daughter, Mary Jo Holm; his sister, Jean Peer; and his sister-in-law, Barbara McQuin.

Roy served in the Navy during World War II as a pilot.  He and his wife, Sylvia, were married on the Naval base in Jacksonville, FL, in May of 1945, and after the war returned to Minnesota, where he completed his degree at the U of M.  He worked for Champion International for 35 years until his retirement in 1986.       .

Roy had a talent for woodworking, creating many beautiful pieces over the course of decades.  He also had a love for all animals, and the loving care he provided for his many dogs and cats throughout his life served as proof.  It didn’t take long for all the dogs in the neighborhood to get excited when he would come around distributing treats!

In 1967 Roy and his family joined the fledging Christus Victor Lutheran Church in Apple Valley and he was the last surviving charter member.

Roy is survived by his daughter, Kristine McQuin Cassar, her husband, Richard, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and by his brother, Thomas McQuin, and several nieces and nephews.

Cremation took place at the Cremation Society of MN, where all arrangements have been made.  A memorial Service will be held on August 18th at 11:00 am at Christus Victor Lutheran Church, 7510 Palomino Dr., Apple Valley, MN 55124 (masks and social distancing required), followed by burial of the remains at Fort Snelling National Cemetery at 12:45 pm.

The McQuin / Cassar family would like to express our deep gratitude to (Dad’s angel) Tami Ebertowski and family, Pastor Kent Claussen Gubrud of Christus Victor Lutheran Church, the hospice care workers at Park Nicollet and Health Partners Hospices, and the caring staff at Good Samaritan Society in Inver Grove Heights.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Michael J. Fox Parkinson’s Foundation, freeurnsforveterans.org, or to the animal rescue organization of your choice.
