Obituary of Janet Ohman Smith

Smith, Janet Ohman

Age 85 of Edina, passed at her home on Thursday, July 9, with her beloved daughter, Hilary, by her side. Preceded in death by: her parents, husband Willard and son Cameron. Survived by: daughter, Hilary; granddaughter, Alexandra (Austin); daughter-in-law, Mary; brother-in-law, Keith (Leanne), and Walter (Sharon), cousins, and many nieces and nephews.

Jan graduated from Washburn High School and went on to attend Carlton College and the University of Minnesota, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. She then became a social worker and started her own business. In her later years of life, she was a proud member of the Edina Chorale for 20 years. Her travels with her friends were among some of her best memories.

She will be remembered by those who knew her, as “One Classy Broad”, with impeccable taste in fashion. She was strong and independent but cherished her friends, and always showed up to support them. In the end, she said how much she appreciated them and that she will miss them dearly.

I will miss you too, Mom, (and yes, I will sell my Harley).

Private burial at Fort Snelling National Cemetery will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please share a memory of Jan in the StarTribune Obituary Guest Book or memorials to the charity of your choice.
