Obituary of Elaine H Heming

ELAINE H. HEMING (PETERSON)

1925-2020

Elaine, age 95 died peacefully on June 13, 2020 at Parmly On the Lake in Chisago City, Minnesota where she had lived for the past year.

She was born March 11, 1925 in Forest Lake, Minnesota, to Frank and Ida (Hawkinson) Alex, the fourth of five daughters. She was raised on farms in the Forest Lake area with the Swedish language heard frequently in the home. She was always proud of being Swedish. In 1947, she married Lawrence A. Peterson (“just the neighbor boy” as she called him when they were dating.) They moved to St. Paul where they raised two daughters, Lora Lee and Peggy Ann. When the daughters were grown, she went to work in the culinary and catering business and really enjoyed her work. She was an excellent cook.

Lawrence died of cancer in 1986 and Elaine continued to work in the catering business. In 1994, she married Edward Heming of Seattle, Washington, a long-time family friend who had lost his wife to cancer. She moved to Washington and they lived in Mulkiteo. They enjoyed traveling with their trailers and motorhomes and returned to Minnesota for frequent visits for many years. When Edward retired, they purchased a retirement home in Yuma, Arizona, where she enjoyed her fruit trees and beautiful flowers. She enjoyed feeding the hummingbirds and roadrunners and frequent visits from family members.

After moving back to Minnesota in 2016 due to declining health, she had an apartment at Cherrywood Pointe, in Forest Lake. She enjoyed bingo and other activities as well as visiting with other residents and, of course, visits and outings with family. Elaine also had kept in touch with her high school classmates.

A year ago, Elaine moved to Parmly where she continued to enjoy her bingo, sitting outside on sunny days, her family, and other residents.

She is preceded in death by her parents, first husband Lawrence, and three older sisters. She is survived by her husband, Edward Heming of Tonasket, WA.; her sister, Millie Mason, of Becker, MN; her daughters, Lora Lee (Bruce) Koepp, of Scandia, MN, and Peggy Ann Stolp of Gold Canyon, Arizona;  step-son, Kory Heming of Tonasket, WA; stepdaughter, Sherry Brown or Yuma, Arizona; five grandchildren – Brandon Stolp, Danielle (Shawna) Stolp, Jason Duncan, Joshua (Emily) Duncan and Justin (Darcey) Duncan; four great-grandchildren, Jacob, Ethan, Parker and Hailey; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Due to health and safety concerns with Covid-19, a Celebration of Life will be postponed until later this year. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery and Mausoleum in St. Paul, Minnesota. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers at Elaine’s request.
