Obituary of Shirlee Ann Aydt

Shirlee Ann Aydt, loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, age 79 of Plymouth, MN surrounded by her family went home to be with Jesus unexpectantly on Monday May 25, 2020 at 6:59am. Shirlee was born in St. Louis County (Hibbing), Minnesota on July 10, 1940 to LeRoy James Bidler and Margaret (Dempsey) Bidler. Already in the home; James (Buddy), Dorothy, and William (Billy), Richard (Dick) was born some six years later to complete the Bidler family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, LeRoy, Margaret, husband, Bernie, brother, Buddy, sister, Dorothy, Sister in laws Mary and Hilma (Billy), nephew Joe, nieces Ellen, Beth, Nancy, and Maggie.

Survived by her daughter Denice McMahon, son-in-law Tim McMahon, granddaughter Kayla Stone, grandson in law Andrew Stone. Brothers; William (Billy), Richard (Dick) sister in laws Pam (Richard), Laura (Buddy) and countless nieces and nephews.

At 19 she met Bernie Aydt, a jazz musician, while he played at a club in town. They were married November 29, 1959 and she moved and lived in Minneapolis. The following year Shirlee and Bernie welcomed there one and only daughter Denice Renee Aydt. Family was so important to Shirlee she lived with her daughter and son in law in a multi-generational home for many years.

Shirlee was known for her unending love for Jesus and her family, quick wit and humor, honesty, no nonsense advises, beautiful smile, unconditional love to everyone, and that Irish twinkle in her eye.

Her granddaughter, Kayla was her pride and joy. There wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do for her. Once Kayla found Andy and married, she was so proud!

Shirlee also had many “other” grandkids. Yes, she loved meeting young people, mentoring and just being a friend them. Rebekah, Andrew, Kaehler are but a few she loved dearly. Befriending Andrew initiated her to become a donor, something she had never thought of before. We are happy to say she donated her cornea’s. She’d be so happy to know she was giving sight or helping further research in the discipline.

Her family were so proud of her in 48 years of sobriety what an amazing accomplishment.

After working many years in a variety of different occupations and industries she was able to retire in early 2008. She truly took to her knew profession! While retired she went para sailing, got her first and second tattoo with her granddaughter; of course, while I was on a business trip, dyed her hair a rainbow of colors blue and purple!

She loved reading, writing, painting, making jewelry, word puzzles, spending time at the lake, traveling, photography, staying young at heart. She rediscovered coloring several years back, she transitioned to iPAD coloring!

She was deathly afraid of birds except for OWLS. She loved owls and if you were to peek on her iPad or in her room, you’d find many different owls in necklaces, art, plush toys, coloring books. She also loved butterflies; her tattoo was a heart with a red butterfly flying to heaven in remembrance of her nephew who died in a terrible accident.

Shirlee suffered from COPD and Emphysema and on oxygen 24/7 from many years of smoking; which made our household follow strict guidelines to keep the virus out of our home. SO due to current circumstances there are no arrangements planned at this time, although a celebration of her life will be schedule once its okay to do so. If we were to have a celebration now, she would be VERY upset with us.

The family asks to leave your memories here on the site or go to her Facebook page and leave your thoughts. We will take these and have them for our celebration. If you have pictures or stories, you’d like to share please send to shirleeaydt@yahoo.com
