Obituary of Walter George Wendling

Walter Wendling, 93, of Duluth died on April 1, 2020 at Edgewood Assisted Lining in Hermantown. He was born March 27, 1927 in Cass Lake, MN to John and Olga Wendling.

He married Dolores Ness on August 4, 1948. They moved to Duluth in 1966 where he continued working with the Great Northern Railway. Walt retired from Burlington Northern as a yardmaster in 1989. After retirement he wintered in Sierra Vista, AZ and spent time at his place on Cass Lake at Stony Point in the summer. He also was golfing in leagues in both Duluth and Cass Lake. Deer hunting was a favorite pastime into his eighties as well as any type of card playing. He was a long time member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dolores; daughter, Vicki Wendling; daughter-in-law Christine Wendling; sisters, Ruth Burger, Esther Wendling and Doris Schultz; and brother, John Wendling.

Walter is survived by his sons, Michael (Pamela) Wendling; Donald (Deborah) Wendling; granddaughters, Michelle, Kathryn, Kristen and Delaine and seven great-grandchildren.

His family would like to thank his wonderful caregivers for the loving, and compassionate care he got at Edgewood Assisted Living these last two years.

A private family memorial service will take place at Mt. Olive Lutheran on Saturday, June 6th. It will be for family only due to Covid-19. Burial will be at Pine Grove cemetery in Cass Lake. Memorials preferred to Mt. Olive Lutheran Church. Arrangements by Cremation Society of Minnesota.
