Susan Johnson

Obituary of Susan Nyvall Johnson

Johnson, Susan (Nyvall) 82, of Edina, MN, passed away on May 4, 2020, after battling dementia, complicated by Covid 19. Susan was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend whose beauty and vibrant personality touched everyone she met. Her sparkling blue eyes would light up light any room.

She was born in Minneapolis, MN and attended Washburn High School. She met the love of her life, Larry on a blind date in 1955. In 1956, Susan and her sisters, Sally and Ginny graced the cover of LIFE Magazine for a story on teenage telephone talking. After graduating high school, she attended the University of Colorado and the University of Minnesota and was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. Susan and Larry were married on August 23, 1958. A natural athlete, Susan enjoyed many sports, especially socializing on the golf course, and had 2 "Holes in One". Susan loved spending time with her family and friends, entertaining and traveling with Larry, nationally and internationally, to attend various USA Hockey events and Olympic Games. She was an avid volunteer and generous to causes close to her heart. It was rare to see her without a smile on her face or a phone in her hand. She also worked for 20 years at what is now Twin Cities Orthopedics as a receptionist and in medical records. Susan was blessed with her loving and dedicated husband of 61 years, Larry Johnson; sons Rick Johnson, Jeff Johnson and daughter Ginny Johnson, and was a wonderful grandmother to Avery and Jake Johnson and to Cooper and Tucker Canon.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Lorraine Nyvall and her son, Rick. She is survived by her sisters, Martha Jones, Judi Clague, Sally McKeen, Ginny Durfee (Allison), and brother Mark Nyvall.

The family would like to recognize the extraordinary, loving care of the Aurora on France Memory Care nurses and staff, and the Fairview Hospice nurses, Rick and Janelle for being with her when we could not.
