I want to echo everything Susan Brown Strauss has already written. I am SO sorry to hear of Larry's passing. His approach to teaching Theatre History opened my mind up to a love of the subject that continues to this day. His guidance on next steps when I was graduating from WCU was invaluable. It was a joy to work with him, whether as an assistant director on Waiting for Godot, or as lighting designer on his amazing set for the Hamlet/Rosecrans and Guildenstern are Dead repertory mentioned above. He was a truly wonderful man and will be missed

I am so very sorry to hear of Larry's passing. Larry was a very special man. He was a major influence in my career, my mentor and a good friend. He introduced me to USITT and guided me through the university tenure and promotion maze. He attempted to instill his love of opera. (That didn't work- as I am still not a fan) But we shared a love of art and of existential plays. One of my fondest memories is of the back to back productions of Hamlet and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead - the same cast in both shows with productions on alternating nights and both on the weekend matinee and evening performance. Exhausting, intense and powerful performances. Waiting for Godot, On the Verge.... so many memories. He will be missed!

My deepest condolences. Larry was a big influence on me when I passed through the Theatre Dept at UND I remember him as friendly and funny teaching stagecrafts and demanding as a director. He also watched out for his students. One late-night set building session was suddenly called to a stop by Larry who told us to come back tomorrow to finish. We complained that we were almost done & he told us that we were to the point that we could make mistakes and he wouldn't have his crew hurt. 'There's always tomorrow,' Larry said. I will definitely plant a tree in Larry's honor.
