Obituary of Jill Ann Palmer
Jill Ann Palmer (Randen), 75, of Le Sueur, MN died April, 24th, 2020. Jill was the Daughter of Clifford E. Randen and Evelyn Y. Randen (Braun) owner's of Cliff's Hilltop Grocery in Le Sueur, MN. The loving wife of Robert Palmer, passed away from complications from cancer at her home in Le Sueur, MN. She is survived by her husband Robert. She is also survived by Lollie Randen, Susan (Randen) Mueller, (John), William Randen, (Peggy), several nieces and nephews, and their children. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Larry Randen.
Jill was a natural leader. She began her professional career after college with Fluor Pioneer, Inc.. She interviewed and was hired for a "Foreign Data Expeditor" position in Chicago, on August 16th, 1976. The following year, she transferred to Southern California as a "Project Administrator" in the Power Division. Jill's tremendous abilities were recognized quickly and she transferred into "Documents Control" shortly after, where she became the manager of PDDM. When she started, everything was on paper plans and she moved Fluor from the Stone age to the modern digital age. She became the "go to expert" when it involved various mainframe reports for document reporting in the late 1970's and from then on. She lived in Dana Point California for most of her career and worked for 40 years with Fluor Corporation's World Headquarters in Irvine, California ending her career as the Manager of PDDM. She reported to the VP of Project Management directly. Over that time she developed the procedures and practices: and was described "as the glue that held Southern California' PDDM together". At Fluor's busiest, she had over 40 personnel reporting to her. She was the "Fluor Subject Expert in Document Management". She was instrumental in developing the proprietary electronic document tracking systems over those years that were used by Fluor's projects worldwide. She not only helped develop the software programs and procedures, she, or a team member personally visited job sites all over the world to install the software and train everyone personally on its usage. It was widely considered a real differentiator with Fluor's clients, who abandoned their own systems and used Fluor's. Everyone, including clients, sought Jill's input on Project Documentation. According to her superior, "Jill leaves a legacy to be remembered here at Fluor, a legacy that will never be forgotten."
Her interests included quilting, travel, sewing, sailing, bird watching, movies, photography and spending as much quality time with family as possible.
Jill was a graduate of Le Sueur/Henderson High School in 1962. She attended college at Lakeland College in Plymouth, Wisconsin. She was very close with her family and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
