Obituary of Audrey Ellen Slind

Audrey said she would love to be 120. In her mind, she made it to 131, mission accomplished. Audrey passed April 24, 2020, peacefully from complications of COVID-19 and Alzheimer’s Disease.

Born October 9, 1942 in Minneapolis, MN, Audrey lived a simple but fulfilling life. She wed young and had a beautiful family. Once her child raising days were over she moved to her favorite vacation destination, Sanibel Island, Florida. She loved island life. She weathered many storms & hurricanes, including Hurricane Charley in 2004. Stubborn as she was loving, she never listened evacuation orders because she could not leave her cat behind.

Audrey had a passion (or obsession) for Birkenstock’s. She was convinced she couldn’t wear any other shoe. Fortunate for us, the local island shoe store would give us the Audrey family discount. She loved shelling and knew the best places to get shells in the Sanibel Stoop. She had an extensive collection and they were proudly displayed on her beautiful coffee table. The only shell missing was the elusive Junonia, to which she spent many years searching.

When her Alzheimer’s starting impacting her, she moved back to Minnesota to be near family. It was at this time we saw a new side of Audrey, one that liked to sing, hum and dance. Although her memory faded more and more each day, she continued to be strong, independent and resilient.

Loved ones that cleared the path for Audrey are her parents Oscar and Louise Palm, son-in-laws, Roger and Mark, and daughter-in-law Jen. Loved ones that will miss Audrey until they meet again are her daughters, Corrine and Tina, sons, Jeff (Wendy) and Scott. Her grandchildren; Jill (Andrew), Austin (Jordan), Ashley (Colt), Logan and Lauren. Her precious great granddaughters; Taylor, Callie, Claire and Brynn.
